The Ultimate Smash Medley

“The final fighter for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Sora, is now out. The book is now closed on the most fantastical and grand entry in the series to date.

To celebrate the work put in by Sakurai and his team as well as share our love for the franchises present in the game, I had the idea to create a medley featuring small snippets of music representing all 89 fighters in the roster, coming to a close in a cover of Lifelight.

Running with the theme of ‘Everyone is here!’ from the game, I wanted to contact every talented musician I know and send them their invitation to Smash! How many do you recognize?”

My Contributions to the Project

A brief bulleted list of things I worked on or created during my time on this project. Feel free to click the plus signs if you’re interested in more details about certain entries.

Angelic Orchestration With a Bit of Video Editing

What I Did: I was recruited for this massive collaborative music project by Moola Mixtape, a discord friend who I’ve collaborated with on some other projects like the Staff Roll Fusion Collab and the Green Hill Zone Fusion Collab. Run and managed by the popular YouTuber NoteBlock, this celebration of the Super Smash Bros. series tasked each of its over 90 composers with remixing a small snippet of a song from each character’s original game.

Being a massive fan of Kid Icarus Uprising, I opted to work on Pit’s section (8:22). I took a slightly different approach to some of the other composers on the project an opted for a sweeping orchestral piece instead of something more fast-paced. Additionally, due to having played the game many many times, I had memorized enough of the game’s dialogue to be able to sentence mix several of the game’s voice lines together and animate the game’s character sprites to have them share a humorous anecdote about how weird it is that this game came out all the way back in 2018.

This might just be my personal favorite thing I’ve ever worked on, as being a part of such a massive project with over 90 other awesome and incredibly talented musicians proved to be an unforgettable experience.
